Spokane's Lilac Parade

This past Saturday, May 21, the annual Lilac Parade toured through the downtown streets of Spokane. Thousands of people filled the streets to give recognition to military service men and women, schools, and other organizations.
Members of the military survival school march down the streets in the parade.

Military members run to greet the parade audience with high fives and handshakes.

These are three POW survivors from past wars participating in the parade on top of a Humvee.

The sound from horns and drums echo through the streets as marching bands from various schools play their music.

Spokane's 2011 Bloomsday

The 35th annual Bloomsday run occurred today with over 50,000 finishers this year. The runners make their way through the 7.46 mile course where they end up in Spokane's Riverfront Park.
People fill up the downtown street in their running shoes waiting for the race to start.

Unwanted clothes are thrown at nearby trees as the temperature rises and the race starts. The city comes by afterward to pick up the clothes and donates it to Goodwill and other related clothing stores.

The crowd gets pumped as they get closer to the start line.

The dreaded Doomsday Hill is near the halfway point and is the longest incline on the course. Some people decide to walk up this hill.

The giant vulture marks the top of Doomsday Hill. The racers are starting to run again.

The finish line. The racers can finally say they are finishers as they go across the line.
