Backpacking in Eagle Cap Wilderness Area

I went backpacking in the Eagle Cap Wilderness Area on July 29, 2012 to August 3, 2012. The weather turned out to be perfect. No clouds in sight for the entire week. It was very lucky, since the Eagle Cap Wilderness Area accumulates a lot of rain. The Wilderness Area is located in the Northeastern corner of Oregon, a few miles away from Enterprise, Oregon. We camped a few hundred yards away from Mirror Lake, which is one of the most popular lakes in the Lakes Basin.

Mirror Lake glows at the base of Eagle Cap Peak during the sunset.

Glacier Lake, only a few miles away from Mirror Lake, sits on the western side of Eagle Cap Peak. In my opinion, this lake is one of the most beautiful.

Another look at Glacier Lake and Eagle Cap Peak behind it.

I love thinking of ways to create juxtapositions in my compositions. Small vs. Big for example.

Paying attention to the small details is sometimes hard when you are bombarded with powerful peaks and alpine lakes. Here is a macro shot of some lichen that covers the granite rocks surrounding the lakes.
Here is my first attempt at star trail photography. This is an HDR image comprised of 4 images that range from 30 sec. shutter speed to 30 min. shutter speed. I really like the contrast between day and night.
